The only thing she wanted

Turning three is a great turning point in a child's life. They talk more and look at things like little people do. It felt so great when I could give my daughter the doll she had wanted for quite a while. The doll was a purchase at a local toy store. Nothing big, just sentimental. The little doll had a plaid skirt and patent leather shoes. She had big brown eyes and long gift boxbrown hair and my daughter had pointed her out several times as we passed through the store on every occasion we had at the store. When her third birthday finally came there was a nice party and several of her little friends.

All the boys and girls came with glittery giftbags and neatly wrapped gifts with bows. Each package looked special and pretty just for her. It made me feel great when it was time to open my gift to her. I saved it for last just to surprise her. She tore open the pink ballooned paper and turned over the box and screamed with elated excitement. "Mommy! You bought it! The only thing I ever asked for in my whole life!" Little did she know, her appreciation for such a small doll would lead to bigger and better in the years to come.
